Book Signings |
| By Leila Barrett | |
We have two local authors signing copies of their latest books this weekend. Jimmy Carter, will be at the Americus Book Store, 116 North Jackson St. Saturday from 3-4:30 p.m. to autograph copies of his latest book, Turning Point, ($22) the story of his 1962 state senate campaign. The senate election was the "turning point" in Carter’s political career and also the turning point in election policies throughout the South. Proceeds from the sale of the former president’s book will go toward the restoration of Plains High School. The building will be a visitor’s center and museum for the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Plains. |

Meanwhile on Thursday afternoon, Jacquelyn Cook of DeSoto will sign copies of River of Fire, the latest in her river boat novels, at Fendall Hall in Eufaula, Alabama, the antebellum home that is the setting for the books. |
The autograph party is hosted by Retired Senior Volunteer Persons and proceeds from Mrs. Cook’s novel will be donated to the restoration efforts at Fendall Hall. But the special effects the group is using will turn the occasion into every author’s fantasy come true. The characters on the book jacket will come alive as the hosts will be dressed in period costume like those on the front cover. |

Then on Saturday, April 3 during Eufaula's annual tour of homes pilgrimage, Mrs. Cook will return to autograph copies of River of Fire again. This time at the Magnolia Crow Bookstore from 1-3 p.m. CST. The popular author is also looking forward to the release of Beyond the Searching River the fourth in the riverboat series, which will be in print April 15. Squeezed in between book signings and other commitments, such as presiding over the Georgia Pen Women’s annual convention near Lake Oconee later this spring, Mrs. Cook is writing still another novel in the popular series at the request of her editors. |
