Cook to sign books at Dove's Nest on Friday
“Sunrise,” a true story in fiction form in the manner of Eugenia Price, is set in Macon and tells the story of the unlikely marriage of heiress Ann Tracy and railroad baron William Butler Johnston, who is twice her age. Following a European honeymoon, the couple returned to Macon to build the landmark Hay House. A subplot in the story concerns the courtship of Georgia poet Sidney Lanier and Mary Day. The book was officially launched on February 12 at the Sidney Lanier Cottage in Macon. A published author since 1963, Cook’s first 10 books have sold 500,000 copies. She especially loves writing about the South. “My goal has been to write timeless stories of lasting values,” says Cook. “ I want to preserve our culture and history and the beauty of our landscape, but most of all I like to reflect the Southerner’s love of God, country, family and fellow man.” After gaining, experience in journalism, Cook began writing the five-book “River” series of inspirational romance for Zondervan, Guideposts Books and Barbour Books. In 2002, Barbour Books combined four of the popular stories in one volume called “Magnolias.” Cook majored in voice at Wesleyan College in Macon. She and her husband live on their family farm in Leslie, where Cook enjoys growing flowers all year long. She has two Shih Tzus and an Australian Shepherd, and keeps her son’s Labrador when his family goes out of town. |
